About Norwegian Maritime Competence Center
Norwegian Maritime Competence Center is a
huge success in the maritime industry. This
has made a positive impact for Ålesund and
the region of Møre and Romsdal county.
The industry clusters in Sunnmøre have
proven that cooperation of competence
between companies and the university creates
innovation and further growth.
NMK is a part of Campus Ålesund and its goal
is to be one of Norway’s most important
meeting place for competence and
development.

Campus Ålesund is the region's hub for
education, research and business
development. With Norway's largest
university and students who excel in research
on one side of the road, and global companies
and entrepreneurship environments the other,
we facilitate collaboration between theory and
practice.
One of the accomplishments we are
particularly proud of is the fact that we have
managed collaboration between the business
world, academia and local government.
NMK houses several important businesses and
organisations within the Norwegian maritime
cluster. Åmong others we have Kongsberg
Maritime Technology and Training Center and
Inmarsat headquarters for North-Europe.
Åt NMK you can find many simulators and
Offshore Simulator Center has the world’s
most advanced offshore-simulator which is an
eye-catching part of NMK (it hangs from the
ceiling). Åll the simulators can connect so that
you can train entire crews and connect several
ships together in integrated and advanced
operations.
